Postman Pete's efforts were certainly music to the ears of a delighted Mr Ashby, whose talent has seen him work with the late French singer Sacha Distel. Mr Ashby, a self-employed musician and teacher, used the shop in Marlborough Way to buy his sheet music and replacement strings.Ĭarolyn was able to point Pete in the right direction and a Royal Mail colleague delivered the letter. Instead of giving up and returning the correspondence to the sender, postman Pete discovered that 60-year-old Mr Ashby lived in Birchmoor, Tamworth, after speaking to the owners of a music shop.Ĭarolyn Lang, at The Music Makers, in Tamworth, told Pete that she knew him well. The postman began a hunt for Mr Ashby, but checks with rural delivery drivers drew a blank. Pete Armitage was left scratching his head when mail sent from Australia addressed to "Roy Ashby, a brilliant violinist in a village close to Tamworth, England" landed at the town's delivery office. A DETERMINED postman turned detective to orchestrate a search to find the rightful recipient of a curiously addressed letter.
